This is a wonderful, wonderful 91-page book for anyone interested in Navajo Rug (and Blanket) Weaving. It has over 75 beautiful color photos of authentic Navajo Rugs (and a few Blankets), and is divided into Chapters providing all of the basic information you might be interested in reading about the History of Navajo Weaving, and the Styles of Navajo Weaving (Ganado, Two Grey Hills, Burntwater, etc.) The Navajo Weaving Loom is the only Loom that does not use any mechanical elements -- which makes Navajo Weaving the most difficult, the most highly skilled, and the most time-consuming weaving performed. Unfortunately, this means that this Art may be dying out because it is not cost-effective -- except for the better-known Navajo Weavers -- and the younger Navajos are not continuing the tradition of Navajo Weaving. Fortunately for those of us interested in learning this Craft, there are now "Miniature Weavings" that can be created... :-)

Absolutely fantastic! This is an art book, originally published in 1954. It was reprinted by Titan books in 2008. Artzybasheff was probably most widely known during his lifetime as a cover artist for Time Magazine. His art tends to anthropomorphize inanimate things like bottles, tanks, guns, airplanes, machines, and factory production lines. Or it might even vegetalize (if that's a word) humans or even reduce them to symbols. In sum, Artzybasheff was a master of creative teratogenesis. It's a wild ride through this book. It's sometimes horrifying, and sometimes hilarious, but always fascinating.
