I love historical fiction. I Love Texas. This book combines the two! The book is placed around the area of Texas I grew up, so it was interesting to me to learn of the area's history. I was fascinated by seeing pioneer life through the eyes of a pioneer woman "taming the west" with her husband. What was even more intriguing is that the author based the entire book on the lives and events of her own ancestors! Including Indian raids, etc. I came away from this book with a deep appreciation for the pioneer women who helped change my home from an unpredictable wilderness to what it eventually is today. This book allows you to experience life from their eyes, and their perspective. It is written by a Christian author and thus has a very Southern-Christian tone to it. It's sold as a "romance" book, but the only romantic part about it is that the main characters meet the first chapter and marry a page later. The rest is how the love they had for each other and their family helped them transform the Texas wilderness, survive Indian attacks, and learn to forgive and press forward. There are 4 books in "Texas Dreams" that continues this family saga up through the Author's line. I've only the read the first one, and give it 4 stars!

Captured Dreams by May McGoldrick is the second book in the Scottish Dreams trilogy. The first book was incredible and really hard to top but this one comes very close. I enjoyed this story for a lot of reasons, one of them being the heroine who had a very strong personality. Portia is lively and very charming character who had me laughing quite a bit. Pierce is an equally captivating character, who I’ve been intrigued by since his mention in the first book. I was not disappointed. Another reason I enjoyed this story is because I absolutely LOVE stories where characters make reappearances! It was nice hearing more about Millicent and Lyon. The story itself is well written and full of emotion but there are a couple areas didn’t didn’t flow as nicely as the rest of the book but it didn’t affect the story too much. I’m torn between giving 4 or 5 stars. Regardless it is a very entertaining story! If you’ve read the first and loved it as much as I did, you should definitely give this one a try too!! I would recommend reading them in order, for the full effect.
