Andy, a boy, visits his Grandma's house with his teddy bear, Arthur. Grandma gives him her old teddy bear as a gift. His name is Max. Andy likes Max very much and is happy that Arthur will have a new friend, too. Arthur soon gets very jealous of all the attention Max is getting and tries to get rid of him. He finally drops him in a well while Andy is not looking. When they get home, Andy is very upset that he cannot find Max. Arthur begins to feel terrible for what he has done so he sets out to rescue him. He goes out in the middle of the night and rescues Max. He apologizes and Max forgives him. He is very happy to have a friend again. They get back just before sunrise. I can use this book to teach to my students the value of friendship. Many of my students will have little brothers and sisters that detract some of the attention from the parents away from them. They will understand how each of the teddy bears feels.
