I bought this book on a whim. In it Ascott takes the psychotechnological aspect of information technology and its hyperreal abilities to extremes as he tries to anticipate ways in which institutions and technology will change. He doesn't even try to get to the level of general society; sticking instead of institutions of education, art, business and other focused ventures. It it he ends up wrapping around fundamental questions, like what is subjectivity, what is the essence of humans and how are humans in a world where everything comes to our fingertips? This is a difficult collection summarize beyond such a high level description as Ascott talks often about technology that is and isn't contemporaneous to him. The last essay, for instance, is in 2000, which is at the dawn of the cell phone before the smart phone really took off. It's hard to see how he might understand what is happening now that we are entering the age of VR/AR, which is what his eye was often on. Ascott is perhaps an unmentioned philosopher of the hyperreal, along with the ranks of Baudrillard, McLuhan, DeBord, and Deleuze.

A little too religious near the end, but mostly a solid introduction/overview of physical science.
