1220 days is a rewrite of the memoirs of World War II Marine Edmond Babler. After enlisting in the Corps in the 1930s and serving in China, Babler was transferred to the Phillipines just prior to the invasion of that country by the Japanese. A prisoner of war after General Wainrights surrender of American forces, he took part in the Bataan Death March and after over a year of captivity in the Philippes, he was transferred to Japan as slave labor. This is the story of his struggle for survival and is a good example of the will to live and keeping one's honor.

East to the Dawn: The Life of Amelia Earhart was a meticulously researched biography of the adventurer Amelia Earhart that was very enjoyable. Earhart's accomplishments were many, particularly when you realize how difficult it was for a woman in the 1920's and 1930's in aviation. Earhart was instrumental in paving the way for many although she always claimed that she had never left her field of social work.
