In three parts, Peter Pereira's book begins with poems centered in his experience as a medical doctor, move to more personal, reflective poems, and end with poems of nature and relationship. Pereira's experience as a doctor provides him with a strange and wonderful vocabulary that leads naturally to poetry. The medical poems in this book seem more formal and removed, even while they express a deep sensitivity for the human condition. Perhaps the poet/doctor dichotomy serves more as a personae for engaging the audience. They pave the road toward the poems of intimacy and relationship.

exploring the fascinating meeting place of science and poetry, pereira sheds light in some places seldom consider. the fact that he's gay, and often meditating upon the subject of conception/birth give the book an added layer of complexity.
