Another double listing by Goodreads. My 1900 copy is an ex school library example with library label stamp sheet still stuck in the inside front cover. For a book that is 116 years old it's in remarkable condition. Some browning, foxing, of pages and rub wear to top and bottom of the cover spines. I bought this from the school which I attended as a ' withdrawn ' so I've had it for 56 years. Beautifully illustrated with drawings and photographs with the brown hard cover embossed with one of the illustrations. I imagine anyone interested in shooting, present day or past, would like to own a copy. The fact that is has been reprinted 105 years after it was first published reinforces this fact.

Escapades of a great white hunter, some unusual, almost all self-inflicted, with no hint of insight to interrupt the action. The trick for authors in the early 20th century was relentless self-promotion via the art of the #humblebrag, and PJ's inflated sense of importance and limited language abilities make this a particularly joyless example. He paints himself w all the good humor of a biting fly, and none of the self-awareness. True story: a zebra kicked PJ off his horse while he was rustling animals for zoos; that was a highlight for me.
