Review # 1 was written on 2011-08-21 00:00:00 Mark Deegan Kapur bases this book on a point that experts like Sacks made in '85 and Prigatano reiterated in 2010- the subjective experience of living neurological impairment and recovery is the only way to "know" the impaired human brain. It is an "Elusive" (Tougaw 2018) "knowing" typically locked away by amnesia, quieted by residual communication impairments, or clouded by the inherent "confusion" of recovery. First Sacks, then Kapur and most recently Prigatano separately conclude that a doctor's view of the impaired brain is "biased" and incomplete. This bias dressed up as a credential, has since snuck into countless licensed neuro patient memoirs. Bravo to Kapur for recognizing as much "from the outside."

Review # 2 was written on 2017-08-08 00:00:00 Javier Land This volume might best serve as a reference text for case histories. It is way out of date considering the advances in brain science in the almost 15 years since its publication. Did not hold my attention. At all. Probably great for specific look-ups.
