Review # 1 was written on 2018-02-20 00:00:00 Thomas J Cassidy Hugh Kenner is about as good as it gets in terms of literary minds, and Adaline Glasheen was an important Joyce scholar. Both of them are interesting letter writers, though Glasheen seemed to have more of the passion for correspondence as such than Kenner did. In addition to being a good all-over-the-place review of Joyce, this is also an interesting look at the world of high academia and publishing, and also a charming introduction to the internal intellectual lives of two people worth looking into. |
Review # 2 was written on 2020-09-15 00:00:00 Ilene Mcfarland Reading the letters and journals of Louisa May Alcott is the nearest we in the 21st century can come to meeting the woman herself. The letters arepithy, filled with classic Alcott comedy and wit. The letters are also moving in the tender reality of joys and sorrows lived. |
