Review # 2 was written on 2021-04-18 00:00:00 Fred Bayel Being a collection of essays, they aren’t all equally accessible. Some you can read by themselves, and others require some philosophical formation to follow, specially at the middle/development section of the essays. But Scruton does simplify the discussion nearing the end of each of those so that you can at least read the essay again knowing what he’s arguing. You may find problem with the fact that the essays are outdated academically speaking, but I thought his conclusions have been proven in recent times. I’d warn only to be aware that it is a collection and not a cohesively structured work, there are some 4 overarching sections each doing its own thing. |
