Review # 1 was written on 2020-04-26 00:00:00 Jacob Goldfarb There are some really stunning imagery and lines in here. While I like the idea of an unknowable and incomplete history, that view slips into intimate detail a bit too often for the conceit to hold. I'd rather get to know Clara through her own words, even if there are things she won't tell us, rather than lending her life importance via the vehicle of her motherhood. |
Review # 2 was written on 2016-08-17 00:00:00 Michael Anthony Can I just say that I'm a sucker for episodic, linked stories like this book contains? Each short story is complete in itself, but each story also advances the arc of its main characters. The final story, "Malingerer," has at its heart an uncanny little twist that reminds me of a Cordwainer Smith work. And the writing. Oh yes, the writing. Well worth the read. |
