This book was given to me as a gift 5 years ago, and I just got around to reading it. Since I had lived 2 years in Alaska, I didn't feel the need to rush. ;-) This is a pleasant book, written by an elderly couple (Lily and Bill Stolt) about their life in Alaska from the early 1900's on. They each take turns writing in alternate chapters, so you get both their viewpoints on what was happening. It is a family history, written for their family, published by the family, with lots of photos. The history of Alaska is underscored on each page as the family was present for the great earthquake of '69, the building of the alaska railway, the opening of mines, etc. The book ends with photos of their 90th and 95th birthday parties in the 1990's. Foreword by their grandson Dean.

Bill writes about his early days in Anchorage as a student, then an electrician. And Lily writes about her early life in Alaska, then meeting Bill and marrying him. After that initial introduction, they each tell little vignettes of their life and their family, living through the 20th century. It's an interesting read about Anchorage, it's early days, it's growth, etc. Had to look up what happened to them. Bill passed away in 2001, Lily in 2005. Looks like they had a good life.
