Review # 1 was written on 2012-02-03 00:00:00 Mike Hauck Why the fuck did it take me more than two years to read an anthology called What the Fuck: the avant-porn anthology? Probably because it is no better than one would expect. Excellent boy-scout cover, though. The volume was perpetrated by Michael Hemmingson, who does stuff like this frequently, and Larry McCaffery, who does such occasionally. The latter's Preface is one of the more valuable portions of this collection. What's here? A Coover bit from pre-pub Lucky days. "The Best Way to Smoke Crack" from Vollmann's novel, The Atlas, which, read the book instead. And if you like me buy an anthology like this one here just because Old Man Bill lent a piece, there's a rare segment of his unpub'd novel, How You Are, featuring Dolores, in The Speed Chronicles, which is short and not very good. But James Franco has a piece in that one too. An FC2 author, name of Kim Addonizo, has two pieces in here, "A Brief History of Condoms" and "Emergency Room", but I read those more than two years ago and don't recall them at all. Or most of the rest of what's in here. So this Review is moot like a cowt. Larry (vide supra) has a piece in here called "Cyrano of the English Department" which I do kind of remember. It's taken from what must be considered a better book, Federman A to X X X X: A Recyclopedic Narrative. And the volume penultimately concludes with "The Assholes" by Sukenick which involves a scene that might cause one to hate Sukenick, but it's hard to predict. At any rate, it's a bit out of his Mosaic Man which, again, may be a better route than this here What the Fuck. Book translated (in the xian sense) from partial-credit to read.
