Review # 1 was written on 2007-10-21 00:00:00 Carlos Ramirez Lord Berners is the king of the Dandy aesthetic in the 20th Century. The fact that he was a slight eccentric adds more weight in my library. This here is a collection of short stories where my first thought was "why didn't I write something as good as this?" It was a horrible moment and I am over that moment, but nevertheless by the next morning this book is still on my pillow case. And hey he is actually more well-known for being a composer. And yet his writing is magnificent. Any man who let his horse run free in his living room is ok with me. Right? Read or add this book to your list mates! |
Review # 2 was written on 2011-02-20 00:00:00 Don Meyers Where on earth did this man come from? Impossibly clever, poignant, bizarre short novels I wish I'd discovered ten years ago. There are long stretches of prose so elegantly crafted it makes Wodehouse sound as crass as Bukowski. |
