Stand-out poems include "A Man Will Rush Me From Behind," "In a World of Few Merengues," and the last poem, "Consuelo." The poems are mainly focused on Puerto Rico and immigration to America, and the author's displacement between cultures. In "Consuelo," Ayala writes "I have mistaken myself / for a mistaken identity."
