I think it tries to be all things to all swimmers but in the end it's not very helpful. The drills get more and more complicated as they get up in levels and it becomes difficult to remember the drills if you do not have the opportunity to bring a training checklist or the book to the pool with you (i.e. training in a community centre pool, for example) I'm also not sure what audience she is trying to reach - triathletes or superfit people who are introducing swimming to their regimen for the first time, back to basics swimmers who are trying to work up to a masters level of swimming fitness, new swimmers who are trying to boost both their fitness and knowledge level? For me, who has stroke technique but needs to build fitness and stamina, the book was at times too basic and too advanced. (stroke techniques were very basic, drills go from basic to very advanced and seem to miss a few steps in between). I do like Ms. Evan's personal stories and advice and gleaned a few interesting tidbits about the life as a Olympic swimmer. |
