There is probably no other work which does as good a job of bringing together, contextualizing, and laying out for the reader the vast spread of Jewish thinking during this chaotic period of Jewish history, from the time of the Persian exile to the time of Jesus. Read this in combination with Boccaccini's Beyond the Essene Hypothesis.
