Intended for the general reader and undergraduate student, A to Z of Philosophy is a readable introduction to the field of philosophy. Moseley interjects wit and humor into each explanation of the key terms, concepts, and historical figures in the philosophical world. This 261-page text covers over 100 entries, from Aquinas to Wittgenstein. Entries are alphabetically arranged and give a broad overview of the idea or person. In addition to common philosophical concepts, Moseley includes the philosophical approaches to ideas such as education, love, and war. Written more as individual essays, entries are not cross-referenced. A compilation of further readings on each entry appears at the end of the text, decentralizing information pertaining to each entry. Noticeably missing from this reference work is a comprehensive index. A list of all entries, as well as an index of names, is available, but no page numbers are included.By avoiding the intimidating nature and technical language of most philosophical dictionaries Moseley has produced an accessible reference tool, simplifying and explaining a rather obtuse subject to the beginning student. While more advanced students will find this dictionary elementary, the tone and style are appropriate for the intended audience. This work would make a good addition to any public, school, or academic library wishing to supplement their reference literature pertaining to philosophy.
