Review # 1 was written on 2011-12-06 00:00:00 Ryan J. Newton This review book is awful, and yet seems to be the only available option for FTCE review. Its riddled with spelling errors, incorrect numerical amounts that are easily checked, and labels on diagrams overlap each other so that some are unreadable. Worse, after taking thr FTCE this morning I find the content hardly matching. The book (conceptually) is a basic review of science ethics, investigative science, some basic chemistry, cell function, sciences history, etc. It seems like a nice overview (if sometimes WAY more in depth than a high school course ever is) that could almost serve as a final study guide to an exam covering my college biology courses (except for how clumsily the text is executed). The actual exam focused more on microbiology, physiology (both non-required electives, btw), and basic evolution and ecology. If you're rusty on definitions or basic processes of cell theory (snd don't mind way too much detail) pick it up. Or just Google FTCE Biology Flashcards, since the packs I found are basically the book verbatim. Good luck either way!

Review # 2 was written on 2014-08-25 00:00:00 Diana Hall “The complaint as to the scarcity of bodies for dissection is as old as the history of anatomy itself” – це розкішна перша фраза, що за рівнем наближається, мені здається, до класичного “It is a truth universally acknowledged”. А річ ось у чім: у Британії, на відміну від континенту, до 1832 року студенти-медики могли препарувати виключно трупи страчених злочинців, та й то не всіх. Отже, перед медичними навчальними закладами постала непроста дилемка: або випускати у світ хірургів, які уявляють людську анатомію виключно з картинок, або добувати трупи нелегальними шляхами (від розкопування могил до вбивства). Це видання містить щоденник члена банди, яка добувала трупи для студентів, але він якраз малоцікавий (просто перелік, скільки, коли й за яку ціну добув), натомість тогочасна вступна стаття прекрасна, купа глючних деталей: - Наприклад, що Бентам, відомий нам Паноптиконом, заповів себе на розтин, і щоб потім із нього зробили мумію і тримали в університеті. Вона досі живе в University College London; - Що ціна на трупи дорослих була за штуку, а на трупи немовлят – за дюйм; - Коли одні постачальники підозрювали, що студенти зраджують їм із іншими постачальниками, вони могли увірватися в анатомічку й порізати всі препарати, аби тим довелося накупити нових. І т.д., і т.п. Химерна така сторінка в історії.
