This was my first Danielle Steel novel and it will be my last. Her writing style drove me crazy. I think the book could have been 100 pages shorter and still gotten her superficial point across. The characters are all very boxed into whatever their specific character trait is. For example, Melanie is the sweet, humble pop star who has an (unrealistically) over-bearing mother. And we get to hear, during every section of the book in which Melanie appears, that she is sweet and humble and kind.... It was very cliche, as were the rest of the characters, who barely had any development to them. All of the writing is very redundant. Every idea in the story is shoved down the reader's throat. I feel like this story could have really been deep and gritty and dug into people's raw emotions but instead it kind of glazed over those emotions. It kind of tried to TALK about those emotions and amazing moments that can change lives, but it didn't SHOW you those emotions or make you FEEL those emotions. At least it didn't for me.

This story kind of confused me in all honesty in regards to the plot. I thought the majority of the story was going to be based on the earthquake and it ended up being about the aftermath for the majority of the novel. I felt like the characters were a huge random mess of people that would never be together and kinda found the story in my opinion to seem thrown together and scrambeled. I mean a nun and a recovering alcoholic; a superstar and an average college grad, it just seemed far fetched to me, and that the relatability between the characters were very unlikely. It wasn't a horrible book, but at the same time in my opinion was very weak in contrast to some of the other Danielle Steel novels that I have read, this one just fell flat and didn't really do anything for me unfortantally.
