Review # 1 was written on 2018-01-03 00:00:00 Anthony Cariello Wonderful book to teach because you get 3 versions of the "shrew" plays written in the same time period which influenced each other but are quite different in significant ways, showing the individuality, not only of the authors, but of the ideologies present in the culture at the time. It's important to realize that English people had a variety of views on the issue. |
Review # 2 was written on 2012-03-03 00:00:00 Giai Tran Gaines and Maurer provide the three Shrew plays (as the title so clearly states) back to back to back. The introduction does a good job comparing the plays to each other and introducing some of the textual problems surrounding the three plays. It is interesting to think about how the plays could be conflated. |
