Review # 1 was written on 2020-10-19 00:00:00 Fernando Castillo Likes: -very detailed on issues dealing with paints and brushes -- possibly a non beginner would already know this stuff, but I've read many beginning painter books and done a number of paintings, and very few of them address this type of thing -also really liked that the sample paintings have a reference photo at the start of each one -- I've done a few paintings lately from instruction without one, and it is HARD to create a picture out of someone else's loosely interpreted picture with no reference - like the suggestion of a time limit AND a brushstroke limit for each exercise - like the discussion on loose work taking more practice than detailed work -- it seems like it should be easier but isn't dislikes: I thought I would like books with multiple pictures showing each step and suggestions on how to paint -- but I find I really don't care for them -- give me some ideas and hints and let me go at it, rather than a long paragraph of 'first do this, then this" - the hints get lost in the paragraph |
Review # 2 was written on 2016-02-28 00:00:00 Frank Raue My go to instructor. Mark Christopher Weber. His instruction is priceless. I find myself referring to his manuals whenever I decide to paint with oils. The exercises are excellent, and his guidance will take you to the level of work you desire to achieve. |
