I was a little turned off when she mentioned that research shows that 2-3 meals is sufficient, because most of the world survives off of that little food. In my nutrition research it seems that research shows that smaller meals throughout the day is the ideal way to eat. Of course you can save $ on food if you only eat 2 meals per day! But, at least for my family, we would be cranky and hungry all day! I also don't think it's a good idea to buy an old freezer, as she mentions. It seems that the increase in your power bill would offset your food savings. I'd be sure to buy an energy efficient freezer. I did connect with most of her ideas about nutrition, i.e meat is optional, lots of fruits and veggies, whole grains. I'm excited to try cooking with dried beans, although I would have liked to know her method because whenever I have cooked dried beans on the stove the skins have been inedibly tough. All in all, I think I learned some things that can cut back our grocery bill significantly. |
Review # 2 was written on 2009-11-16 00:00:00 Fred Lash This book has helpful hints for everyone! There are lots of ways that we could cut costs that Lorae points out. Some of these ways seem like common sense, but we just don't do them. It's nice to have someone point those out to us. I use the meal planning ideas and some of the around the house cutting cost ideas. I would recommend this book to absolutely everyone! There are useful tips for everyone no matter what age or roll you play in your household. Thanks, Lorae, for some amazing information! |
