Great law book about how cases really changed the way the United States sees / perceives gender and sexuality cases from the past to now.

I've just got the 1997 edition, which I flip through occasionally out of interest. I'm not holding the fact that it's out of date, at least in the areas of gay rights, against it. My problem is more that the book seems to just slam most of the parts of the law dealing with gender and/or sexuality together, with no rhyme or reason for how it works. "But it's all related!" I hear the theorists replying. Well yes, it is, but there's no single ideological theme here (compare to a work like MacKinnon's "Toward a Feminist Theory of the State," which is downright seamless) through which to work (just a lot of shout outs to Butler and Foucault et al.). Without one, you just have a mishmash. Finally, some of the editorial choices in terms of content are mind-boggling. There's only like 30 pages here on sexual assault, and most of that is just Rusk.
