Holly and Henry are twins, homeschooled by their father, who gives them little personal choice in the course of their studies. They aren't allowed contact with other children, and their relationship with one another is rather antagonistic - Henry is always doing mean things to Holly. At night, however, everything is different. Holly is secretly the Princess of Waxing Castle, and she has servants who do whatever she wants them to. Unfortunately, her favorite picnic place is attacked by the Horde, and Holly becomes obsessed with plans for revenge and domination. This was a cute graphic novel with simple black and white line drawings. For a standalone story, it leaves a few important questions unanswered (like the final resolution between Waxing and the Horde, and whether Holly learns anything from her experiences as a leader and a warrior), which makes it rather unsatisfying. And it ends on a punchline - that in the wrong hands, education can be a dangerous thing. This after Princess Holly accidentally convinces the Horde's horrible champion to change his life and pursue a university degree (ha, ha). There's a tiny amusing twist - Holly's brother is the leader of the Horde. While Holly is a butt-kicking princess first class, she needs to work on some other skills - possibly diplomacy.
