Review # 1 was written on 2009-12-25 00:00:00 Marc Gasser This book didn't seem to convey the sort of information we were hoping to find in our search for hostels. Although it certainly was the only comprehensive guide to hostels in numerous parts of Ireland outside the few listed in the Rough or Lonely Planet guides, it contained little other useful information. For one thing, we often ran into the 'call hostel for directions.' This may be fine for residents of the UK with working cell phones, but was less-than-great for us (phoneless). In addition, it seemed to mostly rate hostels by 'party index' when we would have preferred an 'ability to sleep soundly' index, or better yet, a 'proximity to traditional Irish food and music' index. Oh well. Maybe I'll write my own hostel guide for Ireland someday. Anyone have some grant money available?

Review # 2 was written on 2012-10-09 00:00:00 Jacob Coleman I had been wanting to read this book for a long time. It is, perhaps, only for the die-hard James fan, or an Anglophile, or both. These are travel pieces originally written for magazines, and they are typically Jamesean: dense, obtuse, suave. Interesting, and fun, in their peculiar way. Who and what they were I know not, for I preferred not to learn, lest by chance they should not be so mediaeval as they looked."
