Review # 1 was written on 2009-02-09 00:00:00 Tom Jensen I learned a ton from reading this book. I am really glad that I bought this book so that I could highlight all over it. This is the first book that I read on this subject and I think it was the perfect place to start. This book tells you what Dyslexia is, what the characteristics are, how to get a diagnosis, how the symptoms for Dyslexia overlap with the symptoms of ADD, how to get help, what to expect from you school, how to prepare for an IEP, what your legal rights are, how to help your child with his homework, strategies for spelling, writing, and math, how to be supportive as a family, and what to expect in the teen years. Because of the information that I learned on how to prepare for an IEP meeting, I was prepared with a list of questions and concerns for my son's teachers. They were so impressed that they asked me if I'd be willing to be a mentor parent and teach other parents how to prepare for their child's IEP meetings. I highly recommend this book for anyone who suspects their child may be dyslexic. |
Review # 2 was written on 2010-08-08 00:00:00 Danny Rhodes This book was an excellent resource for parents with dyslexic children. It covers a wide range of situations and offers comprehensive and easy to understand explanations about the way a dyslexic's mind works as well as the strategies that can be used to facilitate learning. I would have given it 5 stars, but I had to knock one star off the rating because of the multiple (10+) grammatical mistakes/typos I encountered in the book (missing words, extra words, misplaced words, etc). One or two errors are easy to overlook - but more than a handful are not. Especially with a resource book such as this. |
