A sweet little book of novenas (a set of prayers said once a day, nine days in a row), US/Canada-centric but still useful even if you don't live in either of those countries. So what novenas end up here reflect this fact a bit, as does the list of prayer shrines at the end. Since this book has been released, St. Kateri Tekakwitha has finally been canonized (in 2012), which means the prayer for her canonization doesn't have a need now, so you probably have to replace that part in a certain novena with something else. The introduction talks about novena history, avoiding prayer problems, about the shrines, reasons to pray novenas, etc. The prayers are grouped, with each novenas getting a nice introduction: Christ and the Holy Spirit, Blessed Virgin Mary, relatives of Jesus, particular saints, (North) American saints, a novena for the Holy Souls, and Mother Theresa's quick novena. The styles and lenghts of the novenas vary, sometimes it's the same prayer repeated daily, some have small variations within; and most of the novenas have a place within where you can include your own prayer reason. Appendixes give us prayers connected to the novenas, and addresses to US/Canada shrines connected to the novenas here (with phone numbers and online addresses too). It's a pretty plain little book (my copy also has nicely flexible covers), but I don't think one needs much pretty looks to be a good book, and praying here is the main thing anyway. It was interesting and I can see myself using some novenas at some point.

Over 30 novenas and a little background information on each. I received this book as a gift this spring and it's made it easy for me to keep a novena going for some intention or another pretty much since then.
