A book that went along with a beginner psychology class, this book just starts to brush the surface of psychology and what it is all about. There is an introduction to psychology where the concept is defined and explored in further detail and the idea of behavior. This book covers theorists with views that we no longer agree with to start out. Some theories covered in this book include: structuralism; functionalism; psychoanalysis; behaviorism; gestalt psychology; humanistic; cognitive; neuroscience; and more. The book also pulls in other factors that psychologists are working to include such as evolution, social culture, and society in general. There is a smattering of human development with the perspective on how it effects our psyche as well as sensation and perception. Other topics include consciousness, learning, memory, language, intelligence, motivation, emotion, personality, and coping. There is the important piece of psychological disorders, stress, and therapy. This book even glances over how meditation can be effective in some ways (although very briefly). As an introductory book, it only starts to scratch at the surface of psychology but it is very helpful all the same and has wonderful theories in it.
