A mixed bag. This is a collection of 11 papers, some are personal accounts, some are full of footnotes, references and citations to works I am unfamiliar with. It looks like this was written in 2002. The good: it is a relatively quick read and it helped me understand how women of color can be/feel left out and ignored by white feminists. While it was happening I did not get the "solidarity is for white women" hashtag, it seemed divisive and destructive when I encountered it and I could not get its use/benefit explainedin a way that made sense . When dealing with matters of race, WoC issues often are the #2 priority after men's issues and when dealing with matters of sexism WoC issues are often the #2 priority after white women's issues, and that this carries through to other people who are part of multiple discriminated against groups. The bad: It's dated. Many of the points seem common sense but are explained in a semi-patronizing manner as though the reader is expected to find them counter intuitive. Other bits are conclusions drawn from piles of footnotes and references made to documents I've never heard of. I am not the target audience, I get that. This book is for gender or race studies students, not people who impulse buy it from half price books. I guess I'm better for reading it, but I was hoping for something a bit more relevant and topical. I don't think I learned anything new about transpeople.

I didn't find this book particularly helpful. Perhaps because the topics were so diverse, perhaps because it wasn't very quantitative/Psychology focused so much as qualitative and less specific about research aims, etc.
