Review # 1 was written on 2017-10-16 00:00:00 Graham Astor I wanted specific information in a simple, direct format re: training dogs and keeping my sanity. I found what I wanted in Ruth Maran's "Maran Illustrated Dog Training." My dachshund is trained (well, as much as she has allowed us to train her!) but I wanted to refresh my skills and also learn more about dealing with a senior dog. Found it all in this book. The writing is simple and direct with accompanying photos to illustrate the proper techniques. There is some repetition in the text but it's good repetition to reiterate previously learned skills with the new technique to be learned. This is a great book for first-time dog owners and a great refresher for those of us who have had dogs all of our lives.

Review # 2 was written on 2011-09-27 00:00:00 Dave Simms They say a picture is worth a thousand words- and that's especially true when it comes to training dogs. Maran Illustrated Dog Training contains full color photographs for each trick/behavior to show you exactly what the training process looks like, which I found incredibly helpful. This book covers all the most important lessons, from name recognition, recall, and basic obedience, to more advanced training and tricks. While it gives some advice on certain behavioral problems, I do think the book could be improved by delving more extensively into this topic. Still, it was very informitive, as well as easy to understand, and I was happy to see that it used positive training methods rather than punishment or fear-based. One of the better training books books I have read. I would definately recommend it to anyone with a dog.
