Storywise, not much happens in this volume. Ivan faces one of Temozarela's 12 disciples: Achmode a fallen angel who's a bizarre cross between the phantom of the opera and victor Frankenstein. This isn't even the whole fight either - it leaves on a to be continued, before anything is resolved. If you're expecting the densely plotted, multi-layered volumes you've seen previously in the series you'll be disappointed. This one's quite simple. What makes it so good however is the artwork. Achmode himself with his sunglasses, long hair and single rose looks like a vampire but its his creations that are fascinating. He's completely insane and surgically alters his victims, taking their eyes, giving them wings and rearranging their limbs. There's one victim in particular - a little girl called Christine. He hacks off her arms and legs. Sews her hands where her legs should be and gives her wings - all minions have bandages round their eyes enabling them to see visions of heaven. Christine shows Ivan visions and we get a wonderful discourse between Achmode and Belial (witnessing the visions through Ivan) about the nature of angels and the idea of free will. Plus we begin to see Belial's origins and how he's different from Temozarela's other fallen angels. We also get a bizarre epilogue in which Min-Woo Hyung draws himself answering questions about his own beliefs and criticisms levelled at him about the absurdity of the story. If this were anyone else I'd say it was very self indulgent, but I actually found it rather interesting. This volume marks a change of pace for Priest, giving a breather if you will and has some truly bizarre twisted and yet beautiful artwork.

This series is awesome, though a bit drawn out. There was so much action in the first volume or two. The flashbacks definitely slowed things down a bit and this volume didn't really pick up from there like I'd hoped. Still curious as to where this is going and love the art. An unknown gem of horror/western that would probably appeal to more if it was recognized a bit more.
