I had great expectations for this book, however, as I approached the retelling of the Fall of mankind, I found that the author goes beyond artistic license and reinterprets what transpired between Adam and Eve in an unhelpful and unbiblical way. Following Eve's eating of the fruit, Wilson writes: "When she ate it, she knew that it was wrong. But she took the fruit to Adam. He was saddened. He was the protector of the Garden. A Dragon had come, and he had not protected the Garden or his wife, Eve. He should have fought the Dragon and killed it or thrown it out into the world. Adam thought that Eve would die. If he had obeyed God, then perhaps Eve would have lived; he may have been able to save her. Adam despaired. If Eve was going to die, then he would die, too" (pg. 20). I realize that children's stories often go beyond the actual details of the Bible, however, for me, this particular re-telling has no support in Scripture and goes beyond what I am comfortable reading to my children. Nowhere in Scripture are are we told that Eve took the fruit to Adam after she knew it was wrong, rather we see that they took the fruit together and both of their eyes were opened (Gen. 3:6-7). Adam's eyes were not opened to some failure of duty to protect his wife prior to his eating the fruit. The Bible does not say anything about Adam eating the fruit because he despaired that Eve would die; he too thought that the fruit looked pleasing to the eye and fell in the same way as Eve. While the remainder of the book is sound, this handling of what transpired between Adam and Eve is such that I would not recommend the book to others. However, I share it here so that potential readers can decide for themselves if this book would be a good fit for their family. Happy Reading!

Redeemed Reader review here. According to N.D.'s dad, who uses this summary of the Bible frequently'"kill the dragon, get the girl"'the phrasing comes from Joe Rigney.
