Review # 1 was written on 2016-12-01 00:00:00 Ashley Blander I feel like I may have been a little harsh to the un-critical atheists in my review of Disbelief 101, so to even up the score I'm finally going to vent my spleen at this book. I hate this book. I hated it the first time I saw it, I hated it when I had to keep five copies of the hardcover on the shelf even though it wasn't selling, and I hated it when it came out in paperback. I hate the workbook that goes along with it. Why so much hatred? Dr. Dollar just wants you to have a good life, and isn't that a good thing? Yes, good lives are good things, but what is a good life? What does Dr. Dollar want you to have, and what does he promise is what God wants you to have? Well I'll give you a hint, it's his name. Dr. Dollar wants you to be rich, and he doesn't just want you to be, God wants you to be rich. That's right, God, and JC, the dude who said that stuff about it being easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than a rich man to get into heaven, and the same guy who threw a temper tantrum and fucked the shit up of some money lenders in the temple, well he's changed his mind on all of that, and he wants you to be RICH!!!! And this other dude, Dr. Dollar is here to show you how to do it. Just look at him posing there on the cover, he looks as trustworthy as a used car salesman, notice the expensive looking suit, the nice watch, all those things he's gotten by cashing in on JC, and in his previous books that he has hawked (including how to get out of debt, the god way) and through his ministry. Look at him living the good life, and all of this can be yours too, because it's what JC and dad want for you. Dr. Dollar isn't the only person out there profaning religion and turning it into a get rich quick scheme for people who would find venturing an aisle over into the New Age section a sin to try to make money with spells or through magical thinking. It's probably just that his name is Dr. Dollar that brings my annoyance at the whole industry to point right to him. Now, one might say that he has a right to all of his money, and hawking this stuff, and doing his preaching and getting paid the big bucks to do it is his right. Besides one might add it does say in Leviticus that one has to give a certain percentage of ones income to the ministry, and since Dr. Dollar is a minister he has the money coming to him. Yeah, well Leviticus is a bull-shit book that says lots of things that people have chosen to pick and choose which to follow and which not to follow. Even many punishable by death offenses most Christians would never bat an eye at trangressing, but that's another problem. So we'll bracket the idea that the bible says it's ok for Dr. Dolllar to get money for preaching. Besides having the smile of a swindler, I'm pretty sure that Dr. Dollar is breaking at least one of the ten commandments with the cover of his book, I'd say that he's making himself into an idol, but that could be debatable, we'll let him pass on that one too for now. But what about the profaning of JC and Dad for his own profit? Is there a circle in Dante's Hell for him? I'm pretty sure there is, and that he will one day be there right between Joel 'look at me with my name all big on my fancy new bible translation' Olsteen and Tim 'I hope the rapture doesn't come too soon because I'm still really busy getting paid' LaHaye. Maybe these people are sincere, and want to do good, but they are so misguided and turning everything they do into a marketable commodity that seems only aimed at self centeredness and personal rewards. Besides that being opposite of everything that I think I know about what the Bible is really saying, there is also the nagging feeling that if there is this thing watching over us, that means you, me, all those other people and the entire universe that's so big that our planet is like a grain of sand in the Sahara Desert in the whole vast scope of it all, do you really think it gives a shit if you have more money or not? Really? You do? Oh. I'm sorry, you're probably right. It's not working for you yet? Yeah, I guess maybe the workbook is needed, you can't just expect it all to work with just the book, of course you need the workbook, and the devotional when it comes out. That way even if you don't find the happiness you are looking for at least Dr. Dollar gets more Dollars.

Review # 2 was written on 2009-02-03 00:00:00 Michael Schall "Renewing your mind to line up with the Bible is the foundation of all success in life." (Creflo Dollar, 8 Steps to Create the Life You Want) The one truth that I found weaved throughout this book was that in order for one to have a successful, prosperous, and fulfilling life, one must line up one's thoughts with the Word of God. The foundational Scripture for this truth is found in Joshua 1:8: "This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success. This is not only found in this verse in the Bible, but in others, such as, when Jesus said: "...If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free " (John 8:31-32, emphasis mine). I found as I read this book that the Holy Spirit was bringing to my remembrance Scriptures to meditate on during the day. This sounds simple, but very practical and powerful! There is power in meditating or ruminating the Scripture over and over in your mind. There is so much good things in this book that I cannot go into detail here. At the end of every chapter there is a brief review and then a practical application to put that chapter's teaching into practice.
