I enjoy books about history and I especially like reading old diaries and letters. This is a collection of diary entries made by two Michigan sisters in the late 1800's. One sister is an adolescent in Berrien County and the other has gone to Kansas as a homesteader. The young women come from a prosperous family so their experiences may not be typical. Still, it was interesting to read about their daily lives. There's no major excitement and I enjoyed the day-to-day reports. I found the footnotes to be a little odd... they seemed to explain some pretty mundane things. There seemed to be an assumption that the reader was pretty stupid.

A look at the past in both Michigan and Kansas in two sisters ' s writings in their diaries. Both of these young women lived easy lives in that they had the finances to do as they wanted and were not forced to work or leave school at an early age. What was most interesting to me was the daily interest in the weather and how they entertained themselves by reading, visiting , writing and reading letters and how carefree their lives seemed with so much fun. A good read for those interested in women's studies or history .
