Review # 1 was written on 2009-10-16 00:00:00 Brian Hutson My rule of thumb for owning a cookbook, is that I have to want to make or be able to make 3/4 or more of the recipes. This one counts. Shaffer writes a weekly column of baking advice for the Cleveland Plain Dealer and is making appearences at some Cuyahoga County Libraries in November (one of which I will be attending). I can't wait. I read her column and I loved the recipes in this book. They are relatively easy for the new baker and some will be new to the seasoned baker (like me). Gorgeous photos through out, and lives up to it's title. |
Review # 2 was written on 2009-01-13 00:00:00 Bret Bolen John's Butterscotch refrigerator cookies are stupendous. 1 1/2# butter! I substituted dark brown sugar and whole wheat white flour 'cause that's what I had and they turned out great. Probably even butterier (is that a word?) with light brown sugar and all-purpose flour. Marshmallow chocolate bars - what can I say? No other reason on earth why I would have gelatin on hand. Totally love these. |
