Review # 1 was written on 2009-08-13 00:00:00 Gary Stewart Andrew Dow both knows and loves trains, having been head of York railway museum, having an extensive model railway and having authored books published both sides of the Atlantic. I found all the quotes that I expected, including those by Winston Churchill, Ian Fleming and Wilber Awdry, and the Bromsgrove epitaph, "Buses arn't the answer,, they arn't even the right question"and a lot that I did not know that I was glad to welcome. This is the best work on this subject, not only because it is the only one.

Review # 2 was written on 2013-01-12 00:00:00 Jacob Martino The title was a bit misleading---much of the book is a history of rapid transit in Boston and other American and European cities---but the part that covered New York (largely the IRT and the electrified regional rail) was very good, and the parts covering other cities were honestly even more valuable, given that much less tends to be written about trains in cities that aren't New York.
