This book is very powerful and touches on the AIDS epidimic in the Yucatan. Easy read only 150 pages. It looks at cultural values and explores the Yucatan's down low. I never realized that the Yucatan had such a high HIV/AIDS population. I loved it.

I read this book as a parent with two children under 8 years old. The book is an easy read. The author explains that birth through age 8 is the most pronounced period of brain growth with respect to size and connectivity growth. Around age 9 apparently learning is dominated by pruning and refining connections based on use. Pretty interesting to read this and think about your own kids development. That said, the coverage is pretty superficial, I would have enjoyed more depth.
