Review # 1 was written on 2018-11-11 00:00:00 Lisa Kalomiris I was working on a programme for human rights and democracy in Egypt when I read this. I thought it might provide some useful background information. Well, not really, but it was incredibly thought provoking. I didn't read it cover to cover - a few chapters/interviews I found a bit tough, and so skipped onto something more appealing. But some parts of Sadiki's own analysis were, I think, quite illuminating. He uses methods that to me resembled literary theory/semiology to deconstruct accepted views of democracy but also to show how new and more vibrant forms of democracy are not just possible but necessary, not just for the Arab world but to rejuvenate a European and Western democracy that often doesn't get much further than the ballot box.

Review # 2 was written on 2011-07-26 00:00:00 John Powers A book which Benazir Bhutto herself penned and was published after her assassination. BB's government was twice toppled due to high corruption charges. And this book clearly doesn't talk about them. She illustrates about her life incidents but fails to provide a clear picture. Her image in people's mind would always be of her being a brave lady and that she was no doubt! However in this book she talks about terrorism, its link with Islam as portrayed by controlled media and how Western countries especially USA continue to influence and manipulate politics in Pakistan for their own benefit.
