Review # 1 was written on 2017-10-24 00:00:00 Neil Langnickel An amazing, scholarly and well researched book. It is not just about feminism and expanding womens' roles within Orthodox Judiasm. It covers the full gamut of the development of halacha from Talmudic times to the present. I expected Ms. Ross to be more strident in her objection to the paternalistic leanings of Jewish law. Yet, while presenting more extreme viewpoints, she tries to be very much within the "dalet amot" of Jewish thought. |
Review # 2 was written on 2020-12-26 00:00:00 Mary Finley The book was harder to get through than I anticipated, but that's more on me having the wrong expectations. I love her cumulative revelation theology and hoped more of the book was about that (not just the last 2 chapters). But I did appreciate the comprehensive summary of orthodoxy and feminism. |
