This book has some factually correct information, but it also has some misinformation. Book states that the great white shark is the most dangerous shark to humans, with tiger sharks being in second and bull sharks being in third place. This information is not correct. First place should be bull sharks. Go sharks are one of the five shark species that can Swimmin both salt water and freshwater. What makes bull sharks more dangerous than the rest is the fact that they can swim in shallow freshwater, Book states that the great white shark is the most dangerous shark to humans, with tiger sharks being in second and bull sharks being in third place. This information is not correct. First place should be bull sharks. Both sharks are one of the five shark species that can swim in both salt water and freshwater. What makes bull sharks more dangerous than the rest is the fact that they can swim in shallow freshwater, which means they come in contact with humans more often. Bull sharks only known predator are crocodiles. Tigershark should stay in second place. Tiger sharks will literally eat anything they can. If a tiger shark can fit in their mouth, or take a bite out of it, they think it's food. Great white shark should be in third place because they basically only attack surfers that look like seals. Sales are the great white sharks favorite food. If a great white shark taste human flesh, they usually will not take another bite unless they are very hungry or feel threatened. The other misinformation in this book is that the spots on the whale shark's back are yellow. The spots are actually white. Some of the factually correct information is a shark skeleton is made up of cartilage. trucks going to give birth from Wayne "eggs "or they have two different ways of having a live birth. Shark's egg is called a mermaid's purse. Most of the correct information in this book is common knowledge among people who know anything about sharks. "The shark's upper jaw isn't actually connected to their skull. It is attached to their body by muscles. When they bite, they can move their upper jaw forward." This information sounds like it would be correct, however because of the book having so much misinformation I'm not sure if this is actually correct. This book also says a nickname for the sand tiger sharks that I have never heard before. They say it's also called a gray shark. However, sand tiger sharks look nothing like nurse sharks. It also hints at the sand tiger sharks being a gray which is incorrect. They are actually a sand type of yellow. Hence the name SAND tiger shark. Now onto my own opinion. The book is well written. I just wouldn't recommend it at all. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, mainly because of the misinformation. I also don't like that most of the images are either bad Photoshop, Bad 3-D imaging, or drawings. They only have about 10 actual photos. Also this book doesn't talk about most sharks. It would've been better if they got into other species of sharks. There are over 750 different species of sharks in the world. This book seemed to make me dwell on the aggressive and dangerous kinds. It would've been nice if they went more in depth on the many different species of docile sharks. What I do not like about a generic shark books is that they seem to only want to make people afraid of sharks. I wish more books to would talk about the passive side of sharks, and how some are endangered and need our help. All sharks are beneficial to our world.

Discover Sharks is a very educational and attention-grabbing book. This non-fiction book is about all sharks, starting from prehistoric times and touching on the main kinds of sharks. You can learn about the different species, sizes, teeth, diet, and habitats of many different sharks. The book even gives safety tips and facts about how to be cautious, but not fearful of sharks. Discover Sharks would be a great book to have 4th-6th grade students read during a marine life unit or even just for fun.
