Review # 1 was written on 2018-03-24 00:00:00 Carmen Rentas Not bad, with general useful info about having a design business. The main issue for me is a disconnect in the book. On one hand, the book is being targeted at newly opened studios and possibly freelancers, with forms and guides to explain to them and information at a very high level that would not benefit someone who has been the field more than a few years much. On the other hand, most examples that she draws from her own experience are either when she was working from her own home and didn't have an office, to when she had a big firm with large supporting staff across states and cities. She shows us point A and point B, and we have no idea how she moved from one to the other, which is quite relevant to the notion that budgeting, estimating and proposing are the key to profitability and growing your business, as she kept mentioning. This was a huge missed opportunity in my opinion and let the whole book generally just feel off. |
