Review # 1 was written on 2019-11-16 00:00:00 Katie Mckenzie Dane Rudhyar was a unique individual with incredible insight into the human condition. The subtitle of the book is, His Music, Thought and Art. While I am fascinated with his thoughts and life experiences, I am not well-schooled in music and composing. Being that is not my cup-of-tea, I found too much of the book to be about his music, which does not interest me much. Therefore, I did not like this book. But if music and composing speak to you, you might find it interesting. Classic Rudhyar: "Through his work as an astrologer, Rudhyar worked with crises closely; however painful and disturbing they may be, they "must be welcomed, understood, and assimilated if there is to be real individual maturity." - Pg. 93 |
Review # 2 was written on 2016-12-06 00:00:00 Michelle Jennings Great intro text and basic repair guide. Gives some basic background on the history and devotional uses of the instrument. Worth purchasing alone for the second half of easy-to-understand functional/technical descriptions and illustrated walkthroughs of maintenance (tuning, eliminating reed buzz, etc.). I did some tuning and filed away some burrs in my reeds with this book in hand. Made me way more confident in the work. |
