I just never get enough of good challenges like this book gives. Somehow I need to keep working at letting Jesus take the wheel. The following is some of my favorite thoughts/quotes from each chapter. Who is at the wheel? Be a humble passenger. Success in God's view is to love Him and to love others as He loves them. Success for a Christian is glorifying His life by the way we are living ours. Which driver is most important? Selfless life. If you're wrapped up in your own importance, then even when you do Godly deeds, people don't see God; they see you. Be an influencer, not a controller. You could be doing what God instructs us to do… comforting the sick, visiting the prisoner, feeding and clothing the poor, or being there for the needy, but if you're doing it to be noticed, even if that's just part of the reason, then you have too much focus on your own importance. When you worry about what others think of you, you are too focused on your own importance. The true importance of a man starts with the recognition of his insignificance. Be aware of the hypocrisy of wanting to live your life for God, yet at the same time, wanting to be noticed for doing so. Do you show people your relationship with God, or do you show them God through your relationship with them?  Ask for directions. Gain wisdom from God's helpers. Make it a point to ask God to help you not be blind to the help He is sending your way. Thank God for His helpers in your life and for the specific ways He has used them to lighten your load. The victory is always sweeter when you share it with someone else. We need to be receptive to the advice of God's helpers in our lives. This requires giving up power and control to get the job done God's way. The ones who think they can do it all alone are still at the wheel of their lives, and those who recognize they need others are in a position to let God drive their lives. Listen to your navigation system. Listen and follow God's direction. You're not going to obey or listen to counsel from someone you don't know. God has to speak to your heart in order for you to know Him, and you have to open your heart to His calling. It takes much more discipline to obey when the unexpected happens. Face the unexpected head on by responding with Jesus' counsel to be gentle, kind, and loving no matter what. Rely on your driver. Trust, acknowledge and rely on God. Don't focus on those who do wrong and don't be envious of them. Don't obsess about the apparent blessings of the ungodly -- their success is short lived. If we really want to show God we trust Him, instead of focusing on what doesn't seem fair in life, just do good.  An eternal perspective knows that whatever you're going through will pass, and when compared to eternity, is insignificant. When you learn to trust God in all things you'll continue to rely on Him. You'll live a peaceful, joyful life knowing God. When tough times come, you're equipped. When the four car pile up happens. Peace in the trials. Realize God desires others to see His light shine through you as you endure the trial. Ask God to open your eyes and help you align your will with His. Stop clinging to the steering wheel. Cling to God. Are you attached to your home, car, career, friendships, television, or anything that started out with the right intentions and the right perspective but now has become so important to you that it's an idol that keeps you from clinging to God? Never be content with how well you think you know God -- always long to know Him more. What being a passenger is all about. Find joy on the journey. Joy is not found in circumstances, but instead in the person of God. Joy comes only in a right relationship with God. The secret to the long haul. Jesus as joy's foundation. We can face trials because Jesus gives us a peace to help us hold on. He promises us joy when we fulfill His purpose in our lives. God rejoices when we turn away from our self-absorbed way of life and yield to His direction.
