Review # 1 was written on 2009-07-26 00:00:00 George Deal I appreciated the somewhat objective lens that Jennings applied to the story of national standards in the U.S. - through Bush's and Clinton's presidencies. This was a long and drawn out battle between Republicans and Democrats. (Surprise, surprise). And yet, there's a unity among the Congress that holds fast throughout the process of legislating both national standards and adaptations of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA); both sides recognized the importance of raising standards. Across the nation, states were given the opportunity to invest in student performance measurement and, thereby, improving that performance. And yet, despite this unity, political roadblocks came all along the way. (By the way, I skimmed most of the book; it's very skimmable). |
Review # 2 was written on 2020-03-18 00:00:00 Shawn Ferguson Had to read for a class. Arnstine has a lot of great thoughts of what the problems are, but doesn't follow through with how to fix them. |
