Review # 1 was written on 2021-03-03 00:00:00 Dustin Metz Someone commented that my philosophical stance was much like Schopenhauer's. Not being familiar with this 19th century philosopher, I picked up this volume to bring me up to speed on his main concepts. After a well written historical and intellectual introduction to Schopenhauer, the bulk of the book is an alphabetical dictionary of terms that are used by this philosopher or are used to describe the main issues in Schopenhauerian analysis. This is a useful tome, easier to read that the philosopher himself. And yes, I DO have a surprising helping of Schopenhauer on my philosophical plate. |
Review # 2 was written on 2019-08-10 00:00:00 Donald Sherry Really well-done. Excellent entries on suicide, compassion, love, sexual love, and everything you could think of. Cartwright has produced a wonderfully cross-referenced volume, a true labor of love I'd guess. |
