Review # 1 was written on 2014-02-05 00:00:00 Joshua Coughanour Dr. Paige's book is a bit of a downer about education and as an educator I find books like this miss the mark somewhat. If you are looking for an anti teachers' union book this is the one for you! And Dr. Paige brings his experience as Secretary of Education under Bush to the table to write as an expert. He makes some excellent points, but can't completely avoid his bias -- among them the idea that NCLB was a positive change for education. I would caution any reader to read this with a grain of salt understanding that Paige is biased and telling only one side of the story. |
Review # 2 was written on 2013-05-09 00:00:00 David Horbach Possibly, if I had read this one thirty years ago, I would have seen it as profound. But...after 40 years of studying God's Word in-depth daily plus teaching every subject in every grade from PreK-12 plus reading/teaching The Great Books of the Western World, it all seems like verbose statements of the obvious to me. All the way through volume 3, I kept thinking, "And." Although nothing more than common sense written with archaic vocabulary, I'm glad I read, or rather, skimmed it. However, I don't plan to revisit it—onward to volume 4. |
