This was an okay book, and if given the option, I would have rated it 2 1/2 stars. With that said, I have a deep love for the game of baseball and the New York Yankees in particular, so when given the choice between 2 and 3 stars, I chose 3 stars. This is a book that is about the history of the New York Yankees. Starting with the "birth" of the American League, the book chronicles how the Yankees became the most successful franchise in North American sports. It covers the early stars such as Wee Willie Keeler and Jack Chesbro, (who won 41 games in 1904, but threw an errant pitch that cost the Highlanders the Pennant that year), and continues through the decades. The reader will also read about Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe Dimaggio, Whitey Ford, Mickey Mantle, Don Mattingly, and Derek Jeter, how the Yankees captures their 27 World Series titles, and how the team changed as ownership changed hands. While the pictures on the pages are wonderful, the history that is written is probably known to most Yankee fans already. So when I was reading the book, it felt like a trip down memory lane because much of what I read I had read in other books. My big problem with it is the errors in editing that I saw. For instance, the book stated Johnny Damon is a switch-hitter, that the Yankees played the Angels in the 2010 ALCS, and in one part Nick Swisher was called by his father's name "Steve". With that said, it is probably a good book for new fans that don't know much about the team. I think most baseball fans will enjoy it, especially Yankee fans.

This is a good NY Yankees coffee table book. It has some great pictures depicting players from each era. It also gives a little history on how each Yankee teams developed and who the key players were and how they were acquired. It also mentions the ownership and how managers were brought it and what they did. It's a good book to read and flip through if you are a Yankees fan.
