This is a cute take-off of The Gingerbread Man, with Alaskan details.

This is a great rhyming story. It is a little bit longer than most stories of the gingerbread man, but I really love it. It is perfect to use with folktales or a unit on Alaska or arctic animals. The little man meets muskox, lemming, raven, Ptarmigan, hare, caribou, marmot, golden eagle and arctic fox. The illustrations are a little bit strange but kids might enjoy discussing the different style of representing animals with such large shadows. This is a great story to discuss and even springboard into some fun animal research. Highly recommended for grades 1-3.
