Cute and quite PG demi-romance (I don't know if there's a term for this, but a story about a relationship which ends at the point when the second party realizes he is interested/in love/willing to date the first party, who is essentially waiting around for this realization). The in-love-with-your-best-friend trope is nothing new (not a criticism, there's only so many types of relationship in realistic fiction, right?) and the friendship here kind of took the place of other reasons for Kazushi to love Haru, but it was nicely enough characterized. The art was kinda mediocre but the expressions were decent and I liked the friend Minota. Even though these characters were 22 and finishing college it felt kind of YA. Neither person has dated before and they both still live with parents. Not much happens beyond the kissing alluded to in the title. I liked that the author completely rejects the manga romance trope that if a guy is really in love he won't stop even if the other person says no. I also appreciated Haru's realization that he needed to be a more supportive friend. Overall, although this wasn't mind-blowing I liked the emotionally healthy messages about romance and friendship and responsibility. I would recommend this for either gay or straight teens.

THIS MANGA IS THE BEST MANGA EVER!!! It has been a loooooookng time since I've read a manga from back to front and couldn't put it down. I walked around the entire house with this manga glued to my face. I went to potty, Kissing when to potty with me. It is THAT good. The characters are so well-developed and their backstories are woven so perfectly into the story that you're not left with the "Well how did that happen? That doesn't make sense." feeling. Their love isn't sudden and the progression of their relationship is steady. It isn't forced and it doesn't seem awkward. And the uncertainty, the hesitation, the coming-into-the-fact that Haru goes through in his battle for "Do I or don't I?" in regards to his feelings towards his best friend are astounding. I LOVE power struggles. LOVE THEM. And the writer of this manga does SUCH a great job at displaying that "deny, rationalize, realize, accept" battle. I absolutely ADORE that. I wish there were more because my goodness would I read them. I would throw my wallet at Teiko Sasaki and personally fund every Kissing volume if they were to make more. Like...I will work multiple jobs 7 days a week 365 days a year for more Haru and Kazushi. STELLAR JOB. 10/5. Like, I don't think I've liked a book so much since The Sidewalk Artist!
